What is a bunion?
A bunion is a structural irregularity where the underlying bones in your big toe are asymmetrical- it’s not just a bump. A bunion will not go away on its own.
When the big toe is pushed against the other toes, pushing the joint away from the rest of the toes a protruding bump appears on the joint of the big toe. The condition will only worsen as it continues to carry your body weight. Swelling, soreness, and calluses are common. Regularity of pain and limited motion indicate a worsening condition
What can you do to treat your bunion?
First, you can try to reduce the problem by wearing different shoes. (but who wants to do that?) Wearing custom molded orthotic shoe inserts can evenly distribute your body weight. (especially during exercise)
Bunions progressively worsen as time goes on if left untreated. Ripepi Foot & Ankle Clinics provide conservative bunion treatment and surgical bunion treatment to help restore your foot back to healthy function and appearance. Schedule a consultation (often same day) with Dr. Ripepi where he will give you a foot exam, along with X-rays to determine the severity of the bunion and recommend the best treatment.
